What is the cheapest day to go to Goodwill? ›

According to Goodwill, the perfect time slot to shop at thrift stores is in the morning on both Monday and Tuesday. This is because, at least as far as Goodwill is concerned, people tend to donate garage sale remnants on Sunday, so the pickings are new and fresh come early weekdays.

Did you know that the largest Goodwill thrift store in the world is located in Seattle? During the 1950s, Evergreen Goodwill's flagship store location expanded into the iconic store that remains today at 1400 South Lane Street in Seattle.

While our retail stores are similar to regular department stores, our outlet stores offer a different shopping experience. Our outlet stores are sometimes referred to as “the bins” or “bins stores.” This is because of the layout of the store. Instead of items being displayed on racks, everything is placed inside bins.

Clothing and housewares that aren't sold at our typical Goodwill stores are made available at the Goodwill Outlet. The store isn't set up like a usual store. Items are placed in bins throughout the store. They are organized by category, with bins containing clothing, housewares, glass, electrics, etc.

Negotiating At Goodwill

Goodwill gets donations and sometimes they need to move them quickly to accommodate more donations. Does that mean it's unethical to do it in my book? Absolutely not, because they ultimately have the decision to say, “Yes, we'll take less money, or no, we won't.”

Donations May Be Seasonal

People tend to clean out their houses during certain times of year. Summer, when yard sales are popular, is generally a good time. Busy periods, like holidays or back-to-school time, often see slow-downs in donations.

Most op shops restock midweek, which means there are fresh new gems for you to peruse at your leisure. On weekends, most stock has been heavily picked over, and it's unlikely you'll score a timeless bargain. If you MUST go on a weekend, be there bang on opening time to maximise your chances.
