Many alcohols mix well with apple cider. Dark liquors like bourbon (my pick) or dark rum are traditional, but they are by no means the only option. Vodka pairs well with apple cider and is a good light option. You can even let guests each pick their own.
Traditional choices are orange or lemon peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, and star anise. Per gallon of cider, I recommend using 4 cinnamon sticks and 1 teaspoon each of your chosen spices.
Apple cider is apple juice that has not been filtered and still contains all the apple pieces, pulp, and sediment. It is the raw, purer version of apple juice. To make an alcoholic cider, yeast is added which converts the sugar into alcohol. Simple right? Hard cider is the adult version of apple cider.
Hard cider is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented apples (like how wine is made from fermented grapes). Like wine, starting with fruit gives hard cider taste profiles that range from fruity to dry. Your palette can pick up on the acids and tannins that come from the wide variety of apples.
A major natural polyphenol in cinnamon is cinnamic acid, which can suppress intrahepatic triglyceride accumulation and prevent nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by inhibiting lipogenesis and the intake of fatty acid, and also promote hepatic fatty acid oxidation (Wu et al., 2021).
The best way to drink ground cinnamon and apple cider vinegar is to mix 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and 1-2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water. Stir well and drink it before meals. This can help with digestion and weight loss, but always consult a doctor before starting any new health regimen.
Aside from diabetes, cinnamon has shown promise in promoting weight loss. Cinnamon is high in fiber. The spice can therefore help reduce food cravings by promoting a feeling of satiety and fullness. Cinnamon can boost metabolism, since the body uses more energy to process the spice than it does for other foods.
"Research has shown a connection between cinnamon and reducing the risk for heart disease," Shapiro says. "[By consuming] about a three-quarter teaspoon serving daily, cinnamon can potentially help reduce cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and blood sugar levels," she says.
It's difficult to overstate just how impressive apple cider vinegar is when it comes to our health. But then you add cinnamon to it, and it becomes a powerful health tonic that is incredibly beneficial for managing blood sugar levels.
But ground cinnamon never seems to fully dissolve into water, so you may be left with a small clump of cinnamon at the bottom of your cider cup. Cinnamon sticks, on the other hand, are great because you can pull them right out of the cup before serving.
On average, most hard ciders are 4.5% - 7% alcohol by volume (ABV), while some ciders have an ABV as high as 10% or 12%. Drier ciders usually have a higher ABV because the yeast consumes a majority of the cider's natural sugars.
Because of the low levels of sugars and nutrients found in apples relative to other fruits, alcohol levels in natural ciders range from 6 to 10%. Usually special cider apples are used in making the farmhouse style. These apples contain high amounts of malic acid (the “tart” in apples) and tannins.
Cheese: Hard cider pairs well with a variety of cheeses, such as sharp cheddar, gouda, and brie. Meat and Poultry: Hard cider is a great complement to pork, chicken and sausages, particularly when they are grilled or roasted. Seafood: Hard cider is a good pairing for seafood such as oysters, mussels, and shrimp.
This apple cider co*cktail is so perfect for fall. Chilled apple cider poured over crushed ice, mixed with salted caramel vodka and topped off with ginger ale. It's refreshing and tastes like heaven. All the cozy vibes!
Whiskey: We used bourbon for this recipe but rye bourbon, Irish whiskey, or Canadian whiskey would all work just fine. Use a good drinkable bottle, but not too good. There are a lot of flavors going on in this co*cktail and a really nice whiskey will get lost in the sweetness and spices.
