The annual SHPBest™ program was created to acknowledge home health agencies that consistently provide high quality service to their patients. Special Programs
African American Council
The African American Council (AAC) is a board that focuses on the cultural and demographic needs of the African American community. The local board assesses the community’s needs and informs the communities we serve about hospice and the support it offers to families. The AAC includes members of the local community that may have a clinical background, members of local clergy, politicians who are invested in their community’s needs, and many others.
Holocaust Survivor Care
Holocaust survivors and their loved ones have unique spiritual, cultural and psychosocial needs. Our clinicians and care teams are educated and sensitive to survivor traumas that may resurface during the end-of-life transition. AccentCare caregivers also recognize the unique bonds between the generations in many Holocaust families.
Jewish Hospice Services
Our care team is committed to working collaboratively to provide end-of-life care that respects Jewish values and religious practices. AccentCare’s Jewish Hospice Services assures you and your family are able to include your Rabbi in the decision-making processes. The AccentCare spiritual care team, which includes Chaplain Rabbis, are available to serve as a member of your care team. We also provide support and assistance with funeral planning, working with a variety of funeral homes and Chevra Kadisha whenrequested. In addition, AccentCare Hospice offers bereavement services to help family members cope with the loss of their loved one.
Latinx Services
We are especially mindful and intentional in providing patient–and family-centered end-of-life care to the Latinx population. We do this through the staffing of culturally-awarestaff members who are able to facilitate sensitive conversations and support the patient and family from the time of theinformational consent and admission process to the full provision of end-of-life patient care and bereavement support.
Additionally, AccentCare strives to meet the needs of itsLatinxpopulation by creating and facilitating psychoeducational and faith-based support groups, as well as aligning with existing community resources to assist with culturally-unique grief and loss issues and caregiver support.
LGBTQ SAGE Care
Werecognizethe importanceof having culturalcompetenceto serve the needs of LGBTQ communities. In addition to internal training that all of ourstaffreceive, all of our sites have been formally certified in LGBT cultural competency throughSAGE,a non-profit which supports services and advocacy for LGBT elders.We are SAGE Platinum Certified as an organization.
We Honor Veterans
Accentcare is a proud partner ofWe Honor Veterans, a program designed to show respect and thanks to our nation’s veterans and to honor their wishes at end of life. It was developed as a collaboration between National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Our sites are certified under the 5 levels of We Honor Veterans.
The levels are as follows:
- Provide veteran-centric education for staff and volunteers, and identify patients with military experience
- Build organization capacity to provide quality care for veterans
- Develop and strengthen relationships with VA medical centers and other veteran organizations
- Increase access and improve the quality of care for veterans in your community
- Focus on the Vietnam era and soul injury for a deeper understanding of the psyche of a returning veteran

Laura Tortorella is the Chief Executive Officer of AccentCare. She has over 15 years of health care business management experience.

Prior to joining AccentCare, Ms. Tortorella was the Chief Operating Officer of Steward Health Care System, where she oversaw all corporate operations, including labor management, supply chain, pharmacy, lab, predictive analytics and AI platforms, and marketing and communications. And before joining Steward in 2010, she held management positions overseeing the respiratory disease division at Children’s Hospital, Boston. Ms. Tortorella earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Harvard College and MBA from Babson College’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business.
STEPHAN S. RODGERS

Stephan Rodgers is the Chief Executive Officer of AccentCare. He has over 25 years of health care experience including home care, insurance, consulting and employee benefits.

Prior to joining AccentCare, Mr. Rodgers was CEO of OptumHealth Collaborative Care, a division of UnitedHealth Group, which owns, manages and provides administrative and technology services to health care delivery systems. Earlier in his career he was a health care executive at General Electric Company, responsible for purchasing health care benefits. Mr. Rodgers holds a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Chris Dimos is Chief Operating Officer for AccentCare. Prior, he was the President of Retail at McKesson Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services.

Before joining AccentCare, Gupta served as the Chief Financial Officer of Envision Medical Group. He has worked in multiple finance, planning, and strategy roles at Steward Health Care, Alcon, Novartis, and American Airlines, gaining experience in IT, medical devices, and pharmaceutical industries throughout the USA, Europe, and India.
Gupta is originally from India and has been living with his family in the Dallas metro area for the last 15 years. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from Cornell Universityand a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia in India.

David Cook is the Chief People Officer of AccentCare. He has almost three decades of HR support, leadership, and executive experience.

Jennifer has been with AccentCare since 2011, serving as the Senior Director of Clinical Operations in Michigan, and has held numerous leadership roles, most recently Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations and Patient Experience. Prior to joining AccentCare, Jennifer held several advancing leadership roles within the Henry Ford Health System including Director of Clinical Operations for Medical Surgical Nursing at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.
Jennifer is a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse and received her master’s in Health Systems Management from Ethe University of Detroit Mercy and a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Easter Michigan University.

Samia most recently served as the Compliance Officer and General Counsel for Oregon Anesthesiology Group (OAG), the largest physician-owned anesthesiology group in Oregon. Before joining OAG, Samia held multiple legal and compliance leadership positions with UnitedHealth Group, including serving as the Chief Compliance Officer of the OptumHealth business unit and as the Vice President of Compliance Operations for Optum.
Samia received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., and a bachelor’s degree in English cum laude from the University of Kansas.

He served in various capacities from 2000 until 2005, including holding the position of Medical Director of the Illinois hospice program.
Board-certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative care, and sports medicine, Dr. Natarajan has authored book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has also lectured across the United States and around the world, including at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Physicians. He won the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in 1985. Dr. Natarajan currently serves on the board of directors for the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization.
